How I Spent My Winter International Lolita Day 2014

For winter International Lolita Day 2014, I wore a lolita coordinate without even thinking about the significance of the date. To me, Saturday 6th December meant the day of my final university exam-- nothing more, nothing less.

After the three hours of frantic essay-scribbling were up, I rushed outside along with everyone else and whooped for joy. It was bitterly cold, but the sun was shining, and everything seemed somehow light and airy. The prospect of never being weighed down by another piece of coursework, painful lectures and tutorials, excruciating French oral exams, or any sort of test whatsoever made me feel the most bizarre combination of excitement, relief, and uncertainty. I would not miss my university experience in the slightest, but I now faced the prospect of saying goodbye to the maisonette I had called home for the past 18 months, and moving back in with my parents'-- basically starting from scratch again. Where could I go from here?

I didn't take any outfit photos on this day so this is the best I've got! I wore a simple coordinate featuring a Bodyline jumperskirt, vintage cardigan, and G.L.P. coat.

After the exam, I went straight home where my dad was waiting for me with the car. I packed up the last couple of years of my life in a couple of hours and we set off for our hometown. When we got there, I was so relieved to throw off my dress and hop into the shower! It had been an exhausting day, both physically and mentally.

A week and a half later, things have sunk in more. I feel happy about having finally finished  hell education, but also anxious for the future. I need a job to tide me over until my business becomes successful (let me dream!) I need to plan to move out. I basically need to organise my life in a way I never had the chance to before, and while it is stressful, it is also kind of exhilarating.

Overall, this year's International Lolita Day marked a massive transition in my life, and acted as a day of reflection. I already feel all set to make some targets for the New Year, and face up to whatever the next stage of my life will be with positivity.

What did you get up to for the 2014 Winter ILD? (hopefully something a bit more kawaii than my experience!) I'd love to hear about it in the comments, as well as anything else you want to chat about!
