Diamond Brad and Thread Art

Continuing the gemstone theme of Monday, and as a prequel of one of my most viewed posts, Pin and Thread Eiffel Tower, todays post is the perfect alternative or started DIY to popular nail and thread art:
I probably should have started with this DIY before the Eiffel Tower - it's a fairly easy and quick way to adapt the nail and thread art in to something a little more achievable, especially if nail, hammer and thread is a little intimidating to start with.

What I Used:
A4 Card
Gold Brads
Embroidery Thread
Template / Pin

[right click and 'save as' to your desktop to print]

To recreate this project - either using the diamond template, or creating and using your own, you only need a few items and you may already have them all: card, pin, brads and thread:
To start, print your template and place this over the card.  At each point / join in the design,
mark this with your pin - ensuring that it makes an impression in to the card:
...remove the template and then carefully push a brad through each punch:
....creating the basis and outline of your design:
...ready to join it all up with your thread.
I found it easiest to create the main lines of the design and then add extra depth by going over
selected lines, creating patterns between particular lines that I wanted to emphasise and generally
seeing how it went without any real direction!
Continue until you are happy with your design:
...and washi tape to the wall!

...add different colours or textures of thread if you are feeling fancy [rainbow embroidery floss would look beaut], or thread beads and sequin through the thread to add a little detail.  I started with a basic and straight-lined design, but this can be recreated with any shape, outline or wording - I'm moving on to that next.

see you next time x
